David Yardley

Counter-tenor and Alto

Highly-regarded countertenor David Yardley has sung in Canberra, Sydney and the United Kingdom, as a soloist and in vocal ensembles.

Recent solo performances have included the role of alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Daniel in the medieval Play of Daniel, alto soloist in works by Purcell including Come Ye Sons of Art and in the Bush Baroque concert series. He regularly sings with semi-professional ensemble The Pocket Score Company.

Earlier, David sang with a number of highly regarded ensembles, including the renowned Choir of Jesus College, Cambridge, the Cambridge Medieval Music Group, the Choir of St James’ Church King Street, the Sydney Chamber Choir and the Renaissance Players. David is also active as a composer and musical director. He has recently recorded a collection of secular and sacred songs written to authentic medieval carol texts for which no music has survived.

As musical director, he currently leads Canberra-based youth choir, Kompactus.
