Our mid-year concert for 2013 was based on the classic Aesop's Fables that play such a rich part in our culture. The concert explored the humour, wit and wisdom of these ancient tales by using puppetry and the voices of the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus and Espresso Kids backed by cello, clarinet, piano and percussion.

Conceived and conducted by Michelle Leonard, the concert premiered a five-movement suite by young composer Alice Chance; musings on a moral paradigm by composer David Basden; and shadow puppetry by Clare Testoni.

The program was built around the world premiere of composer Alice Chance's set of five songs based on the fables. In addition, our 2013 composer-in-residence, David Basden, contributed several works, including Have more than thou showest and Time's Glory, both based on Shakespeare's text. Both composers worked closely with Artistic Director, Michelle Leonard, to make the music as "tasty" as possible for the audience.

Alice Chance's Aesops' Fables Suite comprised five movements:
   1. The Boy and False Alarms
   2. The Lion and the Mouse
   3. The Dog and the Shadow
   4. The Star-gazer
   5. The Fox and the Raven
