LEC sang Joseph Haydn's stunning Missa Sancti Bernadi de offida on Sunday 10 April 2011 at St James Church in Sydney. The audience loved our rendition of this music that had not been performed in Sydney for many, many years. The performance also included Ross Edwards' Veni Creator Spiritus

Haydn's mass (also called Heiligmesse - Holy Mass) comprises six movements - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. It is scored for choir and orchestra featuring oboes, bassoons, clarinets, trumpets, timpani, organ and strings. The Sanctus movement is a setting of an Austrian tune Heilig, Heilig, Heilig (Holy, Holy, Holy) that was popular in Haydn's day. The Mass takes its popular German title, Heiligmesse, from this section.

This was the second Haydn mass that the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus has performed at St James, following its performance of the Nelson Mass in 2007.
