The Songs for the Outback tour of western NSW was something of a homecoming for our Artistic Director, Michelle Leonard. She was able to stage a concert with her Sydney choir in her hometown of Coonamble. It was a similar feeling for singers Shae and Jim Fleming who are both fourth generation Bourkeites.

But it also felt like a homecoming for the choir as a whole. LEC formed a close bond with the people of western NSW that has endured down the subsequent years - see our aims and objectives. LEC has returned to western NSW on many occasions, particularly as choir-in-residence at the Moorambilla choral festival.

The repertoire for the concerts on this tour was:
   Gloria In Excelsis;
   Norwegian Wood;
   The water is wide;
   Skye Boat Song;
   Simple Gifts;
   Ride On;
   Drunken Sailor;
   Michael Row The Boat Ashore;
   Ride On King Jesus;
   Sailing In The Boat;
   Paul Jarman's Outback Suite:
       Terra Nova,
       Over This Land,
       In Memory Of An Unknown,
       Ride away,
       Warri and Yatungka

The impetus from the tour inspired Michelle Leonard and the LEC committee to initiate a recording of the tour music. We organised for a coach load of children to come to Sydney from western NSW in November for a two-day recording session at Studio 301. Our third CD was born!  (and hear more!)
